SITE NEWS AND UPDATES

The TAT Site of the Classic 8-Bit Spirit is online since May 1997. In the beginning it was only a small one-page section of my personal homepage with some infos about TAT. Later I extended it to a site on its own. The site was completely re-styled and downloadable image files of our demos were added. Then I opened my own domain with a subdomain for this site. More member infos and more downloadable files have been added then as well as a SID page.

1998-07-16:
Added the
TAT Audio Page.

1998-08-09:
Added this update and news section and the tech info section.

1998-08-20:
Did some code improvements.

1998-08-26:
Added the downloadable TAT desktop background image.

1998-09-15:
Corrected a link error on the TAT Audio Page; the zipped Imperial Zax SIDs collection has been linked by error to the Wuiti SIDs collection. Thanks to 'tomten@c64.org'!

1998-09-17:
Improved the layout, added symbols.

1999-06-20:
Removed the Commodore Ring code. Removed the DHTML effect. Reworked the lower right frame. Replaced the background MIDIs by one global background SID ("Awakening Main Theme", ©1992 by TAT). Did some minor layout and code corrections.

1999-07-03:
Reworked the intro, the intro gfx and put the whole thing into a border. Added the MOD, MIDI or SID background music chooser. Did some further layout corrections.

1999-07-24:
Added member photos on the members site. Almost all members of the Central Section are depictured on the site now. Added the back button in the upper left corner which i.e. is useful to escape from the plugin screen when playing audio files on the site. Added a switch-off function for the background musics.

1999-08-05:
Added the link to Case's site on the demos and downloads page where Case offers lots of TAT intros, tools and the complete Heartbeat music collection for download.

THE SCROLL TEXTS
on 'Say It With A Scroller' have been ripped off their original demos the following way: I loaded the demos into the CCS64 emulator and then searched the memory for the texts with CCS64's monitor. The I wrote a small program that extracted and converted the texts to ASCII and wrote them to sequential files on a D64 image. Then I converted the sequential files to PC files and inserted the texts they contained into the HTML page.

THE SMALL SPINNING TAT LOGO
in the right frame and on the main page is the original small spinning logo from Awakening's 'turn disc' part. For the 'turn disc' part I coded for Awakening, I needed a small turning TAT logo in 'Air Dance style'. The logo was drawn on a C64 and then converted into a charset. For this web page, I loaded the original charset into the CCS64 emulator and displayed it on the screen. Then I took a screenshot and used the resulting graphic to create the animated GIF.

THE SIDPLAY FILES
on the 'TAT Audio Page' have been ripped by Adam Lorentzon, one of the maintainers and makers of the HVSIDs collection. Have many thanks, Adam!

THE C64 GRAPHICS
in the C64 graphics gallery have been converted to PC from various C64 formats (including MFLI and AFLI) using the tool 'pic64'.

THE C64 DISK IMAGE FILES
have been made available for you as PC files using the C64S emulator and a 1541 drive which is connected to my PC via the parallel printer port and a special cable.

SPECIAL THANKS TO
Case (for sending D64 images to publish), Ayatollah (same), SAL (for some members' images), all former TAT members (for participating in having a great time while creating great productions)

KNOWN PROBLEMS / BUGS OF THIS SITE
ˇ HIGH NEEDS ON SYSTEM RESSOURCES, site slow on older systems. The slow Java VMs of MS Internet Explorer and Netscape on Windows systems will cause the system to become even slower. On a P120 the site will need more than 60 percents of your system's CPU power. Even much more, up to 100 percents, if you're using a soft synthesizer to play the background MIDIs.
Solution: Use the non-frames version to avoid the CPU-intensive 'messager' applet in the right lower corner and / or disable your soft synthesizer. You should at least use a P133 with 32M to explore the frames version of this site.
ˇ UNDECIPHERABLE GRAPHICS IN THE INTRO SEQUENCE. If you have a slow connection, the intro sequence will not display correct since it uses a linear URL redirection system to change the screen contents. Further the graphics are bad converted (dithered) and don't have transparent backgrounds. The reason for that is that when I made this intro, I didn't even know how to make transparent GIFs... ;-)
Solution: Try to "run" the intro a few times until all the graphics are stored in your browser's cache. Then you should be able to run and watch it without disturbtions.
ˇ COUNTER DOES NOT APPEAR, THE GUESTBOOK LINK DOES NOT WORK. Since these are external free services, they are, unfortunately, simply not reachable from time to time.
Solution: Try it again a little later.
